Eleanor T. Miller

Born June 1, 1925, in Dickson City, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Carvel) Trotz. Eleanor was employed for many years as an operator with Western Union. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scranton.
Eleanor loved serving others during coffee and fellowship hour for years. She enjoyed gardening, baking and knitting. She generously shared with family and friends.
Eleanor is survived by her sister, Marlene and brother-in-law, William White, of Kennett Square; her sister-in-law, Phyllis R. Trotz, of Olyphant; her godchild, Joann Swift, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, William Trotz and Walter Trotz; her sister, Ruth Ruggles; and her niece, Carol L. Trotz.
A memorial service will be held on:
Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 238 Reese St., Scranton. The Rev. John Zimmerman will officiate.
Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Dickson City.
Catherine W. “Kitty” Ferke
December 25, 2016
Born April 24, 1927 in Dunmore, PA, she was the 6th of 11 children born to the late Joseph F. and Helen V. (Tigue) Moran. A Depression Era Kid, Catherine displayed stoic strength and courage in living and dying. Catherine’s resilient nature was tempered by the love of her large Irish family in times of both great sadness and joy.
Catherine graduated from Suffern High School, NY. Upon graduation Kitty worked for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, Avon, and NY Bell as a telephone operator and later in life at The Fatima Center in Elmhurst.
Returning to the Scranton area, Kitty met and soon married the love of her life, Stephen Ferke. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage and affectionately raised 5 children.
Emboldened by the challenges of life, Catherine was a formative role model. She taught her family how to endure, prosper, respect, love, and be there for one another. Throughout her life, Kitty could always be depended on to do the right thing. She embraced life and led her family with grace, modesty, and fortitude. Kit lovingly and unselfishly gave much of herself. She is loved, missed, and respected by her family and all who came to know Catherine as Kitty.
Kitty was a talented chef, baker, and gardener. She was an athlete, playing multiple sports, excelling in bowling, and was a dead ringer in horseshoes. Forever welcoming and hospitable, her house was filled with the love of family and friends alike. She always gave people the benefit of the doubt, was non-judgmental, and a true champion of the underdog.
Surviving are her daughters: Karen F. Gatens of Moscow, Carol Derrig (Patrick) of Madison Twp. and Joyce Fedak (Robert) of Washington, NJ; her son Allan Ferke (Karen) of Elmhurst Twp.; and daughter-in-law Susan Ferke of Olyphant; sisters: Alice Kakareka of Madison Twp. and Grace Ward (Eugene) of Manlius, NY; grandchildren: Keegan Gatens (Lauren), Caitlin Gilhooley (Jamie), Killian Gatens (Jennifer), Kevin Gatens, Kelly Derrig, Stephen and Patrick Ferke; and great-granchildren; Irelyn, Reagan, Jameson, Quinn, Karina, Rhyan, Minnie, Ava, and Emma; many cousins, nieces, nephews.
In addition to her husband Catherine was preceded in death by her son Michael S. Ferke in 2005, and her son-in-law Kevin P. Gatens in 2011; her great-granddaughter Dylan M. Gatens on Wednesday, December 21, 2016; her brothers: Joseph, James, Eugene, Gerald, Paul, and Francis Moran; and her sisters: Mary Moran and Helen Zawaski.
The family would like to thank Fr. Robert Simon, Dr. Martin Penatar, and Traditional Home Health.

Dylan M. Gatens, three months old, Covington Twp., was taken to heaven Wednesday at the Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, following an illness.
Born Sept. 19, 2016, in Scranton, she is the beloved daughter of Keegan and Lauren (Tomeo) Gatens.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her big sisters, Reagan A. Gatens, Quinn M. Gatens and Rhyan C. Gatens; her paternal grandmother, Karen F. (Ferke) Gatens; her maternal grandparents, Patrick A. and Mary E. Tomeo; and Janet A. (Sienkiewicz) Tomeo; cousins, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Kevin P. Gatens.
Our beautiful baby girl brought abundant amounts of joy into our lives in the short time that she spent with us.

John J. O’Donnell Jr.

Born Oct. 10, 1931 in Scranton, son of the late John J. and Mollie Radle O’Donnell, John was a 1949 graduate of Scranton Central High School and served in the Navy Reserves, obtaining the rank of electricians mate third class.
John was owner of O’Donnell Construction for many years and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Moscow. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 6050 in Moscow, and was a past grand knight and a fourth degree member.
Also surviving are his children, Patricia E. Daniels and husband, Rick, Exton; John J. O’Donnell III and wife, Gemma, Flagstaff, Ariz.; Kathleen A. Cunningham and husband, Michael, of Lansdale; and Paul V. O’Donnell, Scranton; four grandchildren, Christopher Daniels, Matthew Daniels, Colleen O’Donnell and Kara Breazeale; three great-grandchildren, Ella and Alexandria Daniels, and Brooklyn Gemma Breazeale; and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Arlene Murray and Jacqueline Marker.

| Charlotte Krushinski, 87, of Carbondale, died Saturday at Linwood Nursing Home in Scranton, following an illness. Born in Dickson City, on July 23, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Helen (Domanish) Brodoski.

Born May 5, 1997 in Kingston, son of Rudy Elmquist, Gouldsboro, and Michelle Frayne Elmquist, Roaring Brook Twp., Alec was a 2015 graduate of North Pocono High School and presently was enrolled at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. Alec was affiliated with the Moscow United Methodist Church.
Also surviving are his sisters, Amy M. Elmquist, Roaring Brook Twp.; and Ashley M. Sabella and husband, Michael, Hubert, North Carolina; brother, Austin M. Paul A. O’Hop, Sr.

Born in Avoca, to the late William and Estelle O’Hop, Paul was the youngest of 12 children. He was raised in the Houston City section of Avoca and attended Pittston Twp. elementary schools in addition to Avoca High School. A gifted athlete, Paul played football, basketball and baseball while in school, and he continued his athletic pursuits (including golf, tennis, handball, skiing and flag-football) thereafter.
Paul often spoke of his life in four segments. First, he attributed his core values to growing up in the small town of Avoca. He was proud of his Polish heritage. Family was everything, and the friendships he made were forever. And while he recognized the differences in people, he nonetheless respected all with whom he came in contact.
The second segment was his stellar military career. Paul enlisted in the Air Force at a very young age and spent 22 years in the service. He was initially stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska, where he was involved in military air rescue operations. Later, while stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, he witnessed the launch of Explorer 1, the first U.S. satellite in space. He was assigned to the headquarters of the Air Research and Development Command (ARDC) at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D.C. He was then recommended for Officers Candidate School (OCS) where he was a distinguished graduate. As an officer, he was initially commander of a Strategic Air Command (SAC) medical squadron at Beale Air Force Base in California, following which he had other command assignments, including in the Aerospace Medical Division at Brooks Air Force Base in Texas, and in the combat zone in Vietnam. He was a highly decorated officer and his many military medals included the Bronze Star Medal with earned Valor Clusters. In addition to normal postings, he was an exchange student with the Navy (again a distinguished graduate) and spent two years in a tri-service activity with the Army. Such experiences prepared him for his ultimate assignment to the Pentagon, where he served as an executive assistant in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, working at times with icons such as Secretaries of Defense Dr. James Schlesinger and Donald Rumsfeld.
Upon retirement from the Air Force, Paul became vice president, operations and co-founder of Libra Technology, a company that pioneered computer applications in military health care. The company was the first to develop the basis for the longitudinal record of care. In addition, the company aided in the development of TRICARE and its related components.
Paul, Floren and family then retired to Pennsylvania, where, for a short period, Paul was the staff assistant to the director at Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center. Thereafter, he held a professor position at Marywood College (now Marywood University) where he taught a wide array of courses in the graduate and undergraduate management science programs. In addition, he maintained a consultative relationship with the VA, and used it as an opportunity for his Marywood students to gain experience in computer sciences via paid internships. Many years later, Paul was recruited by Wilkes College (now Wilkes University) to teach in its School of Business and Economics. Within a year, he was elevated to the position of vice president, Business Affairs and Auxiliary Enterprises, a position from which he retired in 2001 after serving 16 years. According to then-Wilkes University President Dr. Christopher N. Breiseth, he and Paul constituted a “dynamic duo” that moved Wilkes into the 21st century as they spearheaded the creation of new academic programs, as well as major campus construction projects that transformed the university. Upon retiring, the university’s board of trustees honored Paul by naming a campus building “O’Hop Hall,” the first and only time that a Wilkes University vice president has been so honored.
During this segment of his life, Paul was also very active in Pennsylvania state politics. He was a member of the charter class of Leadership Pennsylvania. He served six years as member/commissioner of the Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board and two years as the chairman of the appeals board on the Governor’s Energy Council. He was also an active member of many local community and charitable organizations. In addition to being vice president emeritus of Wilkes University, Paul was member/treasurer emeritus of North Pocono Public Library and emeritus member of board of managers at the Allan P. Kirby Center for Entrepreneurship and Free Enterprise.
Paul was quite philosophical about people and life. He believed that the real legacy of parents is the goodness of their children, and that he and Floren had a superb legacy in that respect.
In addition to Floren, he is survived by their three children, his daughter, Lynne O. Feeney, M.S. and her husband, David Feeney; his son, attorney Paul A. O’Hop Jr. and his wife, Rossana; and his daughter, Suzanne E. O’Hop, Ph.D., and husband, Kenneth Beckham. He also has six grandchildren, James, Christine, Francesca, Pablo, Wesley and Anna; and great-grandson, Rory. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Henry; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Vincent, Stanley, Eugene, Lewis, Albert, William and Joseph; and by sisters, Johanna, Frances and Antoinette.

Born Dec. 17, 1927, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lillian (Ross) McLaughlin. She was educated in Scranton schools and was a member of the United Baptist Church of Taylor. She was a former member of Trinity Baptist Church in Scranton.
Surviving are her son, William Naumann and wife, Virginia, of Gilbert, Ariz.; her daughters, Gayle Merritt and husband, Thomas, of Mt. Bethel; and Susan Menichiello, of Scranton, and her fiancé, Thomas Mancuso, of Blairstown, N.J.; four grandchildren, Jill Nixon, Kimberly Kelley, Ashley Sessions and Tyler Menichiello; and five great-grandchildren, Merritt and Everly Kelley and Amelia, Sofia and Eadlin Nixon; and nieces and nephews.
Florence was also preceded in death by two brothers; and two sisters.

Born Dec. 28, 1947, in Moscow, he was the son of the late David F. and Mary (McDermott) Kolb. David was a 1965 graduate of North Pocono High School, and a 1969 graduate of the University of Scranton obtaining a bachelor’s degree in biology. Before his retirement, he was employed by Schering-Plough Corp. of Kenilworth, New Jersey. David was an Air Force veteran.
Surviving are his sisters, Donna Brown and husband, Bill, of Pequannock, N.J.; and Pamela J. Edwards and husband, Dan, of Moscow; his nieces, Karen Brown-Wheeler, Allyson Brown, Paula Bechaver; and his nephew, Andrew Edwards; two great-nephews, Hudson Wheeler and Eamon Edwards; and his great-niece, Kelly Aronowitz. He is also survived by his adopted son, Robert Kolb, of New Jersey.

Born in Germany, she met her late husband while he was serving in the U.S. military. She was formerly employed at Rita’s Sportswear of Moscow.
Surviving are her daughters, Dorothea Rinkus, Janet Scott and Donna Scott-Fauzio; grandson, Michael Rinkus and wife, Lea; and great-granddaughter, AvaGrace Rinkus.

George B. Dickey, 85, of Covington Twp., died Thursday morning at Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, after a brief illness. His wife is the former Nancy Garland. The couple celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Born Aug. 16, 1931 in Dunmore, son of the late Peter and Mary Bednar Dickey, George was self-employed as a masonry contractor for many years and was a member of the local Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers International Union.
George was a veteran of the Naval Reserves and an Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Moscow. George was an avid sportsman and fisherman.
Also surviving are his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Dickey McGuire, Covington Twp.; two grandchildren, Samantha Gafford, Boston; and Aaron “AJ” Sanko, Scranton; sisters, Dolores Janowitz, Elmhurst Twp.; and Helen Sheppard, Madison Twp.; brothers Peter Dickey Jr., Roaring Brook Twp.; and Joseph Dickey, Madison Twp.; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, John and Andrew Dickey; and a sister, Mary Waslyk.

Born Dec. 12, 1922, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Turofski) Oldenski. Helen was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the church. She was a member of the Roundwood Senior Citizens Center and the West Side Senior Center. Before retirement, she was employed at Williams Bakery, where she met her husband, and Casuel Sportswear and Sugarman’s Inc. of Eynon.
Helen was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished time spent with them.
Surviving are her daughter, Marie Roberts and husband, David, of Peckville, with whom she has resided since February; and daughter-in-law, Terese Pellegrino, of Scranton; two grandchildren, Anthony and wife, Colleen; and Joshua Roberts; three great-grandchildren, Gianna J. Pellegrino, Grace E. Roberts and Nicholas A. Roberts; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. Helen is also survived by her brother-in-law, Christopher Pellegrino and his wife, Rose, of Scranton.
Helen was preceded in death by her son, Ralph R. Pellegrino Jr. in 2012; her grandson, Ralph J. Pellegrino in 2005; her sister, Bertha Zolman; and her brothers, Julius and Gustave Muranko.

Born June 3, 1943 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Edna Bray. Barbara was a graduate of Scranton Central High School; and prior to her retirement was employed by Bank of America. She was previously employed at the Guild Studio in Scranton for many years. Barbara was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Scranton.
Surviving are her children Christopher A. Schmidt of Scranton; and Laura D. Gonzalez of Clarks Summit, PA; five grandchildren: Jonathan, Abby, and Joshua Schmidt; and Amelia and Evan Gonzalez; also surviving are cousins and very close friends.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Rawland and Mary (Herman) Lucke. Before her retirement, Julia worked at Moses Taylor Hospital for 16 years. Julia was also very involved with the family business, Guttermen Inc.
She loved spending half the year at her second home, “Secluded Acres.” Julia enjoyed arts and crafts with her best friend, Cathy Pitoniak, cooking, baking, bowling and horseshoes. She was an avid NASCAR and football fan. She was former treasurer of the Scranton Pool League and sponsor of the Waldos/Guttermen Inc. Golf Tournament.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her children, James Mecca Jr., Anthony Mecca and wife, Joy; Kim Matthews, Tiffany Matthews, John Matthews, Joseph Matthews and wife, Michelle; Keri Ann Matthews, Kimberly Herrera, Allyson Sahm and husband, Robert; Keith Sherman; 34 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Kathryn Blepp, May Ann Diehl, Janis Lucke, Linda Pienkowski and Sandra Paone; her brothers, Rawland Lucke Jr. and Richard Lucke; nieces and nephews; many friends who were like family.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Donna Marie; her brother, Robert Lucke; and her sister, Barbara Lucke.

Joseph J. Calabrese, Jr.

Joseph was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 18, 1937. In his early adult life, he was a professional body builder and under the guide of Abe Goldberg’s Gym in Manhattan, NY, Joe won the title of Mr. Vulcan in 1954. While residing in Middle Village, Queens, Joe and his friends opened a body building club, Club Barracuda, where he promoted healthy eating along with body building. He joined the Navy in 1955 and was an Airman on the USS Saratoga CVA 60. He was a General Foreman at Brooklyn Union Gas Company for 25 years and owned and operated Gem Automotive in Ronkonkoma, NY. After retirement Joe relocated to Pennsylvania to be near his grandchildren whom he adored.
Joe’s passion for body building continued throughout his life and Joe became a personal trainer at 60 years old. He had a love for the cinema, photography and was our local cinematographer. He collected antique cars and Jeeps. Joe was quick with a joke, a movie quote or a military fact. He was a traditional man who loved his family. His greatest gift was his humor which was endearing to us all.
The family would like to express our sincere thank you to everyone at Mountain View Care Center for their truly compassionate care.
Pappa Joe is survived by his daughters, who were the light of his life; Tina Louise Calabrese, Southampton, NY, Lisa Marie Duffy and husband, Kevin, Moscow, Pa , Jean Calabrese, Manhattan, NY, Rosemarie Lister and husband Andrew, Kutztown, Pa.; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Grace Cooper Corby Schmidt, 80, of Scranton, died Sunday in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. She was the widow of Walter Schmidt, who died in 1996.
Born Sept. 7, 1936, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Myrtle (Russell) Cooper. She was educated in the Scranton schools.
Grace’s family would like to thank the Geisinger Community Medical Center’s 8th floor for their support and kindness given to our mother. Special thanks to Jeremy Parker and Chad Paulin, you both have been angels in our mom’s eyes, thank you for everything, especially making her smile. Thank you also to Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the remarkable care and compassion, and for treating us like family the moment we walked through the door. Eugene Rabiega, 62, of Scranton, died Sunday in Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Debra Hazelton.
Born July 28, 1954, in Scranton, he attended Scranton Technical High School, and was employed in the construction field for many years.
Surviving are his son, Eugene Rabiega and wife, Leslie, of Clifton Twp.; and his grandchildren, Courtney, Amber, Ashley, Ariel, Gene and Logan; stepgrandchildren, Jamie, Lindsey, Bryan and Lacey; his sisters, Joan Passiniti and Shirley Cowell and husband, Michael; and his brothers, Robert Rabiega and wife, Pat; Jerry Rabiega and wife, Kathy; and Richard Rabiega and wife, Linda; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Tiffany Rabiega.

Thelma A. McAndrew Taylor, 95, of West Scranton, died Sunday at Mountain View Care Center following a brief illness. She was the widow of Robert E. Taylor, who died in 1985.
Born July 1, 1921, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late James and Beatrice (Lynch) McAndrew. She attended the Scranton schools, and was a member of St. Patrick’s Church.
Surviving Thelma are several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert Taylor, in 1999; three sisters, Mary Carmel Ceccoli, Lucille Wells, Helen McAndrew; and her brother, Joseph McAndrew.

John Thomas Williams

John Thomas Williams of Elmhurst Twp. died Sunday morning at his home. He was the husband of Eileen McAllister Williams. The couple celebrated 47 years of marriage on Sept. 27.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Willard and Esther (Parfrey) Williams. He was a 1960 graduate of Dunmore High School and attended Keystone College, obtaining an associate’s degree in engineering. He served in the 109th Infantry National Guard. John was a well known tool and die maker for DS&W Tool Co., and then co-owner and operator of Saco Tool & Die until his retirement.
John loved camping, motorcycles, radio controlled airplanes, sailing, boating, windmills, fishing and fun times with friends. He was extremely gifted and creative in everything he did.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter, Stephanie, whom he loved more than life itself; his aunt, Ann Mann; cousins and several nieces and nephews; extended family and very close friends.

Linda Ann Surplus, 49, of Scranton, died Thursday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following an illness. Born Feb. 27, 1967, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Irene M. (Yap) Surplus.
Linda was a loving mother, sister and grandmother. She had a great affinity towards nature, especially birds and animals.
Surviving are her children, Kevin Surplus and wife, Cindy, of Scranton; Keith Havenstrite, of Madison Twp.; and Desiree Surplus, of Madison Twp.; her brother, Ronald G. “Ralph” Surplus, of Scranton; and her sister, Diane M. Robert J. Ulkoski of Newfoundland passed away Thursday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia “Jean” Gibbons Ulkoski; and his aunt, Ann Watson. Robert attended North Pocono schools, culinary arts school and was an ordained priest in the Greek Orthodox Church, known as Father Vladimir.
Robert was a very outgoing gentleman who wore many hats, and had many passions. His passions included cooking, helping others and spending time with his family who he loved dearly.
Robert lived with his brother, Paul Goodfellow, of Newfoundland. He is also survived by his brothers, David Ulkoski and wife, Kathy, of Roaring Brook Twp.; Edmund Ulkoski II and wife, Judy, of Hamlin; sisters, Denise Setzer and Jerry Trapper, of Scranton; and Donna Maul, of Factoryville; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins and beloved friends.
Robert’s family would like to thank Dr. Adonizio and staff at the Henry Cancer Center, Geisinger CMC and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassion and care.

Joseph Harvey Sproul Jr. died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 15, surrounded by his loving family. His loving wife of 56 years is Linda Blair Connell Sproul.
Born Aug. 18, 1934, in Scranton, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Madelyn Sproul. Harvey is survived by his sister, Christina Sproul Jennings and husband, Charles, Marriottsville, Md.
He was a graduate of the Hill School in Pottstown, Pa., and Brown University in Providence, R.I. He was proud to serve in the Navy, obtaining the rank of lieutenant.
Surviving in addition to his wife and sister are his children, Joseph Harvey Sproul III and wife, Karen; Christina Sproul Cutri and her husband, Keith; and Stephen Connell Sproul; five grandchildren, Joseph Harvey Sproul IV and fiancée, Jessica Murphy; Sara Sproul deBlasi and husband, Gerard; Rebecca Thieroff Sproul, Dean James Cutri, Kyle Joseph Cutri; and his great-grandson, Gerald George deBlasi.
Harvey was predeceased by his sister, Linda Sproul Ward.
Harvey was president of H.B. Sproul Construction Co. and Sproul Reality. He was a member of the Church of Epiphany, Glenburn. He was very active in his community, having served on many Boards, including Geisinger Health System, Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, Northeastern Bank of PA, Hickory Grove Cemetery, Northeastern Contractors of PA Association, Blooming Grove Hunting & Fishing Club, Glenmaura National Golf Club and Penn Millers Insurance Co., to which he served as chairman of the Board. He also served as president of the Board of Directors of Country Club of Scranton, Waverly Community House, Clemo Hunting & Fishing Club, Waverly Country Club and vice president of Moses Taylor Hospital and Johnson College.

Linda L. (Smith) Hapersberger, 67, of Moscow, died Saturday at Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness. Her husband is Paul Hapersberger.
Born April 29, 1949, in Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Ada (Ruth) Smith. Linda was a member of the Ladies Garment Workers Union. She worked at many places, but most of her life was a devoted homemaker. Linda loved dancing, country music, but above all gatherings with her family for any occasion.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughter, Tina Louise Strausser and husband, Thomas McKinney III, of Gouldsboro; her grandchildren, Valerie Filer, Marissa Crawford, Andrea Knowles, Tiffany Strausser, Samantha Strausser, Chelsea Verity and Julie Verity; her sisters, Barbara Kassner and husband, Robert; Rosemarie Cramer, Bonnie Klinger and husband, Robert; her brother, Harold Smith and wife, Hope; many great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and sister and brothers-in-law that were truly her family.

Born May 11, 1968 in Barre, NH, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Barbara (Most) Kezer. Bonnie was an Air Force veteran, and prior to her illness was employed by Target as a stock clerk. Bonnie was a very talented and dedicated quilter, having won numerous awards for her quilts.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her children Jason Keenan of Connecticut, Lauryn Paff of Mesa, AZ, Edward Most of Hazleton, PA, Jessica Most of Swoyersville, PA and Curtis Paff of Holloman AFB in New Mexico; (1) brother: John Kezer of Chicopee, MA; and grandchildren: Evelyn, Christopher and Naomi.

Joseph M. Grab, 87, of Thornhurst, died Sunday, Oct. 9 at Geisinger – Wyoming Valley Hospital following a series of illnesses. He was born Nov. 10, 1928 in Thornhurst, Pa. His wife of 58 years, Beverly Rogers Grab, died July 24, 2015. A son, David, died in 1980; and infant son, Stephen Grab, died in 1969.
Joseph was the son of the late Joseph and Anastatia (Czernik) Grab. Also preceding him in death were brothers, John, Frank, Andrew and Stanley; and sisters, Marian, Katherine, Anne, Angela, Rosalie, Jeanne, Bernice and Barbara.
Joseph was owner and operator of the Joseph M. Grab Trucking and Excavating of Thornhurst. He was a founding member of the Thornhurst Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, C.A.R.E. of Thornhurst, Pa.; and a member of the North Pocono Tax Payers Association. He was a member of St. Mark’s Church in Thornhurst, and Men of Malvern. He was a former member of St. Rita’s Church in Gouldsboro.
Surviving are his children, Linda M. Scott and husband, Keith, of Thornhurst; Joseph M. Grab Jr., of Thornhurst; Anne K. Parker and husband, David, of Stevens, Pa.; John A. Born Jan. 9, 1960 in Panama, daughter of the late Michael and Mary Finnerty Cummings, Patty was a graduate of Misericordia University and Marywood University, obtaining a master’s degree in education. Before her retirement, Patty was employed as an elementary teacher in the North Pocono School District.
She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow.
Surviving are her sisters, Kathleen Lewis and husband, John, of Lake Ariel; and Eileen Blizzard and husband, T.J., of Marlboro, Mass.; her brother, James Cummings and wife, Shannon, of New Orleans, La.; and nieces and nephews.

Charles Lester Bond, 63, of Scranton, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at his home in the Plot Section of Green Ridge.
Born Sept. 12, 1953 in Rondo, Ark. to Lessie Mae (Armstrong) Ellis, Charles lived most of his early life in upstate New York and died as a 30-year resident of Scranton, Pa. Charles was married to his high school sweetheart and cherished wife of 42 years, Debra (Wade) Bond, on Oct. 12, 1974 in Brockport, N.Y.
Along with his wife and mother, he is survived by his son, Kaleigh W. Bond and wife, Terri, of Scranton; his daughter, Kanisha D. Bond and husband, Michael Kayode, of Washington, D.C.; two grandsons, Taylor Bond and Jordin Bond; one brother, Thomas Ellis, of Rochester, N.Y.; and five sisters, Delores Bryant, of Charlotte, N.C.; Linda Bryant, Dorothy Calloway, Doris Counsil and Lisa Bell, all of Rochester, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.
Charles was a graduate of Albion Central High School in Albion, N.Y. and of Niagara University in Niagara Falls, N.Y. with a B.S. in economics.
He worked in inside sales throughout the industrial paper and plastics industry, most notably with Hammermill Papers in Erie, Pa.; Fox River Paper in Appleton, Wis.; Panel Prints in Old Forge, Pa.; and Poly Hi Solidur in Scranton.
Charles was a devoted community member, and loved coaching youth sports, fishing, debate and fresh air. He was a cigar aficionado with a huge heart and an infectious laugh. He will be forever loved and missed.

Born Nov. 8, 1916 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Ignatz and Sophie (Traczak) Lesinski. She was educated in the Scranton schools, and was employed as a seamstress and sales clerk at Scranton Dry Goods Inc. in her early life. Mildred was a member of St. Paul’s Parish in Scranton.
Surviving are her son, George S. Guzek and wife, Sonja of Dunmore; two grandchildren, Thomas J. Guzek Jr. and wife, Lynn; and Carolyn Becker and husband, Gary; three great-grandchildren, Julia Becker, Andrew Becker and Thomas J. Guzek III; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Guzek; and several nieces and nephews.

| Lucille Ann Kenny, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord Jesus on September 25, 2016, at the Westchester Medical Hospital Transplant Center, Valhalla, NY. She was surrounded by her loving daughters, Elizabeth and Kathryn and her sister Norine. Her entire family was by her side the day before and at her passing in their thoughts and prayers. We were not ready to let her go, but God had other plans.
Lucy was born in Huntington, Long Island, N.Y. on July 5, 1959 to Eleanor (deceased) and Donald P. Kenny. Her mother called Lucy her “firecracker baby” as she was waiting to give birth to her since July 4th. She was certainly a “firecracker” with a keen sense of humor. She graduated from Walt Whitman High School in Huntington Station, N.Y. in 1977 and from Katherine Gibbs Executive Secretarial School in 1978. She worked for AMICA Insurance Company on Long Island, New Jersey, and finally at the corporate headquarters in Providence, Rhode Island for twenty-three years, retiring in 2002. Lucy loved to play the guitar and loved to have sing-a-longs with her family. Her favorite movie was the “Sound of Music” and the family would always watch the movie at Thanksgiving and we would all sing along. Her nieces, Jenny and Jackie, have fond memories of her singing “Puff the Magic Dragon” to all of the kids when they were little. She was an ardent fan of the New York Yankees as well as the New York Islanders and the New York Giants. She enjoyed visiting holy shrines with her sister Deborah. Her most profound experience was three years ago at Saint Margaret’s of Scotland Church in Waterbury, Connecticut when she was present as our Lady appeared to Ivan (one of six visionaries that the blessed Mother began appearing to in Medjugorje since June 1981 on a daily basis). She also enjoyed making stationery of photographs she would take of wildlife. Lucy also loved attending Mass and watching EWTN (Catholic Eternal Worldwide Television Network), especially Mother Angelica. Lucy’s greatest gifts to her family and friends were her love for her daughters and her love for her family, her spitfire sense of humor and her catholic religion. Lucy leaves to remember her always: her father, Donald, her two loving daughters, Elizabeth and Kathryn. Her four siblings: her brother, Donald; her sisters, Norine Kenny, Deborah (Dave) Costill, and Patricia (John) Mahoney. Her three beloved nieces: Jennifer (Rob) Thompson, Jacqueline (Costill), and Melissa (Edward) Longpre’. Her beloved nephews, John Mahoney and Max Kenny and her beloved grandnieces: Anna Leigh and Katherine Longpre’. Her cousins Gary and Diane Goldschmidt and Francie Goldschmidt-Jamison as well as Marilyn and John Schauder and her beloved childhood friend Rosemarie Hand Ballance. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all of the healthcare professionals who cared for her: Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y. and Westchester Medical Hospital Transplant Center, especially the wonderful nurses (guardian angels), Audra, Stephanie and Mary in the MICU and the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Ambulance Service. Dominick A. Siconolfi

Dominick A. Siconolfi, 84, of Madison Twp., died Wednesday in Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore, following an illness. His wife is the former Mary Ann Fallat. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage on Aug. 11, 2016.
Born July 16, 1932 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Peter and Christine (DeMatteo) Siconolfi. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, where he was a member of the football team. He was the first “Athlete of the Week,” featured in the Scranton Times.
Dominick was an Army veteran, and a member of Company F of the 35th Infantry Combat Regiment serving in Korea during the Korean War. Before his retirement, he was employed for many years at the Globe Store in Scranton, and also at Community Medical Center in the maintenance department. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter, Christine A. Shuleski and husband, Rick of Duryea; two sons, Dominick A. Siconolfi and wife, Bonnie of Hammonton, N.J.; and Michael P. Siconolfi and wife, Rose of Dunmore; his brother, Monsignor Constantine V. Siconolfi; and five grandchildren, Erica Siconolfi, Lauren Shuleski, Justin Shuleski, Dominick A. Siconolfi III and Gina Siconolfi; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph Siconolfi and Michael Siconolfi.
A Mass will be celebrated:
Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Church St., Moscow, with Monsignor Contantine Siconolfi, brother of Dominick, as celebrant.
Interment with military honors will be conducted at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.

Theodore E. Frable

Theodore E. “Ted” Frable, 86, of Scranton and Florida, and formerly of Moscow, died Wednesday evening. His wife is the former Betty R. Knickerbocker. The couple would have celebrated 67 years of marriage on October 1.
Born Sept. 28, 1929 in the Nay Aug section of Scranton, he was the son of the late William and Bertha (Knowles) Frable. Before his retirement, Ted was employed as an owner/operator truck driver, and had previously been employed by Wayne Crushed Stone of Scranton. He was a member of the Moscow United Methodist Church and Moscow Lodge 504.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Ted enjoyed television westerns, camping, fishing and was known to some as the “bulk hauler.” He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters, Linda J. Guse and husband, Paul of Moscow; and Carole J. Burnett of Covington Twp.; his son, Thomas H. Frable and wife, Marie of Archbald; eight grandchildren, P.J. Guse, Karen “Kiki” Guse, Kelly Bell and husband, Jim; Katie Burnett, Raymond Burnett and wife, Amy; Richard Frable, Leah Hurst and husband, Michael; and Thomas Frable; his brother, Stanley Frable of Old Forge; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Albert D. Merritt, 72, died Wednesday morning at home after an illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie J. Merritt.
Born in Towanda, Bradford County, son of the late Frederick Merritt Sr. and Helen Ford. In his younger days, Albert enjoyed employment as an auto mechanic. He had a great love for classic cars.
Albert once stated his greatest accomplishment in life was his family.
Surviving are his three daughters, Sheila Merritt and her fiancé, Frank; Shari Menichello and husband, Paul; Bobbie-Jo Merritt and fiancé, Victor; his two sons, Michael Merritt and wife, Venus; and Norman Merritt and wife, Ashley; his oldest brother, Floyd Merritt; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ronald E. Heisler, 59, of Blakeslee passed away peacefully Monday September 5th at his home with his wife and sons at his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Susan A. (Spitale) Heisler. Born in Cincinnati, OH, he is the son of Catherine Heisler and the late Eugene Heisler.
Ron graduated from LaSalle High School and the University of Louisville. Ron was an employee for Nortel Telecommunications for twenty three years as an electrical engineer, when on January 15, 2004 he was seriously injured suffering from head trauma in an auto accident. He was a member of Christ the King Church in Blakeslee and on their closure St. Maximillian Kolbe Church in Pocono Pines.
Ron’s family wishes to thank everyone who has shown respect, kindness and compassion and treated Ron with dignity throughout these difficult times.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons James of Blakeslee, and Joseph of Pittsburgh; (2) sisters: Christine Wheeler and husband Richard of Cincinnati, OH and Nancy Ernst and husband Robert of West Harrison, IN.

Anne B. Pencek

Anne B. Pencek, 94, of Scranton, died Saturday morning at Moses Taylor Hospital. She was the widow of Adolph Pencek, who died in 1965.
Born April 30, 1922 in Scranton, daughter of the late Adolph and Kamilla Tessarek Eberhardt, she was educated in the Lutheran and Scranton schools, and was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she served for many years volunteering with the Lutheran Braille workers providing Bibles to the blind. Before her retirement, Anne was employed by Scranton National Bank, Manhattan Shirt Co. and Williams Bakery.
A woman of quietly unfailing faith, Anne devoted her life to her church and her family. She derived tremendous pride and untold joy from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughter and devoted caretaker, Beverly A. Pencek, Scranton; son, Arthur Pencek and wife, Marion, Moscow; three grandchildren, Jennifer Kamla and husband, Gregory, Moscow; Jason Pencek and wife, Erin, Roaring Brook Twp.; and Kimberly McHale and husband, Michael, Dunmore; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley and Samantha Kamla, Anna, Nora and Lila Pencek, and Gavin, Evan and Riley McHale; brother, Arthur Eberhardt and wife, Caroline, Clarks Summit; sister-in-law, Helen Eberhardt, Scranton; and nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Edward Kopicky; and her brothers, Adolph and Victor Eberhardt.

Jean Louise Angeli, 87, a resident of Linwood Nursing Center, Scranton, died Aug. 28 after a brief illness. She was the widow of Joseph A. Angeli, who died in 1976.
Born May 15, 1929 in Taylor, daughter of the late William V. and Rachel Sharbaugh Williams, Jean was employed by Sears Inc. as a supervisor before retirement. She was a former member of St. Patrick’s Church in Scranton.
She is survived by her grandsons, Joseph Angeli and husband, Glen Ellis, New York City; and Todd R. Angeli and wife, Rebecca, Dunmore; four great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Williams; brother, Peter Williams; and nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Joseph A. Angeli Jr., in 1995; a sister, Anne Bush Weber; and brother, Peter Williams.

Ruth A. Portas

Ruth A. Portas, 85, a resident of Madison Twp. since 1964, died peacefully Friday evening at her home. She is the wife of Harold Portas. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage in August.
Born June 11, 1931 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Augusta Wolf.
While proudly raising her five children, Ruth was affectionately called “Mrs. P.” by many others who came through the door. Her loving smile, kind heart, encouragement, generosity and quick wit endeared them as their other “Mom.”
Ruth was known for her green thumb in the garden, and was an avid bird watcher. She enjoyed crocheting, watching her favorite TV shows and reading. She was a devoted Eagles, Phillies and Penn State fan. Her family and friends knew not to disturb her while the games were on. Throughout the many trials and challenges of her life, Ruth was never known to complain. She will be dearly missed.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughter, Carol Reavely and husband, Dale of New Jersey; and her son, Edward and wife, Cheryl of Madison Twp.; her grandchildren, Paul Reavely and wife, Katelyn; Kendra, Kirk, Zachary and Josey Portas.
Ruth was preceded in death by her sons, David, Frederick and Philip.
A private memorial for family will be conducted. Ruth had a deep respect for the medical profession, and chose to donate her body to medical science.

Judith C. Gay of Tunkhannock, and formerly of Scranton, died Monday at her home following an illness. Her husband is Joseph J. Gay Sr. The couple celebrated 62 years of marriage on Jan. 11, 2016.
Born June 23, 1938 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mary (Evanski) Sands. Judith was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her family.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughters, Deborah Lee and husband, James of Tunkhannock; and Judith Lewonczyk of Mill City; her sons, Joseph J. Gay Jr. of Jefferson Twp.; and Jodie A. James A. Loughman Jr. of Scranton, and formerly of Elmhurst Twp., died Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Loney Loughman, on Nov.11, 2010.
Born Nov. 6, 1959 in Scranton, he was the son of Ann (Calhoun) Loughman of Salem Twp., and the late James A. Loughman Sr. James was a graduate of North Pocono High School, and was an Army veteran. He was employed in maintenance at Idle Hour Lanes in Dickson City.
Surviving in addition to his mother is his daughter, Kelly A. Loughman of Scranton; his sister, Laurie A. Hight of Onancock, Va.; his brother, Gary Loughman and wife, Pamela of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and six nieces, nephews; six great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

Daniel F. Coviello, 99, of Moscow, Pa., passed away on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016 after a brief illness.
Born on Dec. 2, 1916 in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Vito Antonio and Anna Maria LoRusso Coviello. He was educated in the Dunmore Public School System. He graduated from the Scranton Beauty Academy and studied in Paris, France. He owned and operated Mr. Dan’s Beauty Studio. He became one of Scranton’s most prominent hair stylists.
Daniel was a WWII Army veteran having served from 1942 to 1945 in Africa and the European theater. He was assigned to the 776 Tank Destroyer Battalion and awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
Surviving are a son, Anthony J. Coviello and wife, Marlene. He is also survived by two daughters, Donna M. Newman and husband, John; Vita A. Kamora and husband, Joseph F. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jason J. Kamora; Janeine D. Michalowski and husband, Marc; Mario D. Coviello and wife, Suzanne; Clinton J. and Brooke M. Newman; and seven great-grandchildren, Marina Irene and Luciano Kamora, Salvatore, Isabella and Dominic Coviello, Marisa and Michael Michalowski; two sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Nole Benfante and Shirley Roth Nole; and also cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carmella Marie Nole Coviello; four brothers, Leonard, Conio, Andrew and Paul Coviello; five sisters, Margaret Coviello, Lucy Giannetta, Florence Mancino, Marie Albini and infant sister Florence; and great-grandson, Vincenzo M. Coviello.

Carol J. Kitchell of Gouldsboro passed away at home surrounded by loved ones Tuesday evening, the 23rd of August 2016 after a long battle.
Carol retired in 1996 and moved to Florida in 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Kitchell, in 2002, then moved back to Pennsylvania in 2003 to be with her, daughter Elladee.
She enjoyed crocheting, reading books, collecting Cherished Teddies, and watching all her grand and great-grand children grow up.
She is survived by three daughters, Lisa Tucker and husband, Phil, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Tracey Crawford and husband, Mike, Rochester, N.Y.; and Elladee Kuchak and husband, Todd, Gouldsboro; one son, JR Kitchell and wife, Danielle, Akron, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Kat, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Amanda and Alison, Rochester, N.Y.; Hannah and Ryann, Akron, N.Y.; grandsons, Michael and Matthew, Gouldsboro; and great granddaughter, Zoey, Rochester, N.Y.
Her wishes were to be cremated with no viewings, and her ashes to be spread in the bay in Sarasota, Fla.
William D. Thomas

William D. Thomas, 93, of Scranton, died Wednesday at Hospice of the Sacred Inpatient unit in Dunmore, following an illness. His wife is the former Mary E. Richmond. The couple would have celebrated 69 years of marriage on Sept. 27.
Born April 13, 1923 in Scranton, he was the son of the late David and Anna (Thiede) Thomas. Bill was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II in the Philippines and Australia. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business. Before his retirement, Bill was employed as a manager with the Department of Welfare for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
As a youth, Bill was very active in scouting, and received the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a three time National Roller Skating Champion, and was past president of the United States Roller Skating Association. His roller skating took him to every continent and 49 of the 50 states. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a long time member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Scranton.
Surviving in addition to his wife are seven nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted:

Sharon B. Gifford, 66, of Greentown, died Sunday at her home. Born May 31, 1950 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late James H. and Florence (Pierrepont) Gifford. Earlier in her life, she was a switchboard operator at Wyckoff Heights Hospital in Brooklyn, and Brunswick Hospital in Amityville, N.Y. She later became a full-time homemaker and devoted her time in raising her two daughters. She was known by her family and friends for her generous nature. She helped many people including strangers out of the kindness of her heart. Surviving are her companion of 30 years, Louis Tucci, Greentown; daughters, Amy L. John M. Glaser

John M. Glaser, 59, of Dunmore, died Wednesday at his home. His wife is Dr. Mary Ann DeSando. The couple celebrated eight years of marriage on July 4.
Born June 18, 1957 in Pittsburgh, son of Geraldine Klink Glaser, Dunmore, and the late John B. Glaser, John a 1975 graduate of North Pocono High School, was employed by Price Chopper of Dunmore and was formerly employed in management by Blockbuster Video.
John was an active member of Rotary District 7410 for many years, serving as assistant governor. He was a former member of the Rotary Club of North Scranton and the Rotary Club of North Pocono.
John was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Dunmore, and formerly a member of St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow. He was a converted and devoted Dunmore Bucks football fan, and a proud member of “Friends of the Bucks.” He was also a loyal New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
John was a wonderful person who truly loved people. His smile and wit were infectious, and had a relaxed and gracious attitude towards everyone he ever met. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Also surviving are his sister, Karen M. Booth and husband, Michael, Enfield, Conn., and their sons, Justin and Ryan Booth; brothers, Thomas C. Glaser and wife, Suzanne, of Florida, N.Y., and their twin sons, Jared and Jonathon Glaser; and Matthew A. Glaser and wife, Donna, of Demorest, Ga., and their daughters, Emily Glaser Young and Jessica Glaser; his brothers-in-law, David DeSando and wife, Denise, of Fredericksburg, Va., and their children, Jeremy and AnnMarie DeSando; and Michael DeSando and wife, Lori, of Dunmore, and their children, Colby, Jillian and Emma DeSando – “the apples of his eye.” He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

In death as in life John gave to others and was an organ donor prior to cremation. His life will continue to help others.

Harry L. Schiefer, 77, of Lehigh Township, Gouldsboro, PA and formerly of Bucks County died peacefully Saturday in the comfort of his home with the family he loved. His wife is the former Bonnie Clark, the couple celebrated 45 years of marriage on May 27th.
Born September 28, 1938 in Trevose, PA, he was the son of the late Ira and Evelyn Schiefer. He was a Navy veteran and worked hard for his family at Shutte & Koerting for 35 years. He cherished time spent with his beloved wife Bonnie, daughter Theresa son in-law Roger and Grandson Chase. He always had a smile to share and was of the Lutheran Faith.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter Theresa E. Bancroft and husband Roger of Yardley, PA; two step-children; grandchildren: Chase Bancroft, Justin, Danielle, and Nicole; and his sister Blanche Kerber of Bristol, PA; and nieces and nephews.

Janice Hawk Liddic

Janice Hawk Liddic of Clarks Summit made her transition on Aug. 8, 2016.
Born in Scranton, in 1954, she was the daughter of Louise Horger Hawk and the late Elmer Hawk. She graduated in 1972 from North Pocono High School, and in 1976 from Lock Haven University. She married her college sweetheart, Steve, in the summer of 1976, and they shared a 40 year marriage. They are the proud parents of three children, who are the cornerstone of their lives.
Janice enjoyed 29 years working in the Marketing/Retail branch of the family business, Gertrude Hawk Chocolates, along with her siblings and extended family. After leaving Gertrude Hawk Chocolates, she worked at the Lupus Foundation of Pennsylvania for five years as the event coordinator. Her keen organizational abilities made her a skilled event planner. She arranged innumerable events and parties for work, family and friends.
Janice had a lifelong interest in philanthropy and helping others. Nowhere was this more evident than in her continuous work on behalf of animals and animal rescue. She volunteered at local shelters, fostered kittens and was involved with the Trap/Neuter/Return movement for community “feral” cats. She founded the family foundation, Gathering Place Animal Rescue, in 2008, which provides assistance for spay/neuter and which, to date, has provided these services for more than 2,000 local cats.
Janice felt lucky to have such a strong circle of friends in her life, including her college chums, “The Creamettes,” with whom she enjoyed yearly trips and adventures, the Clarks Summit Playgroup, Book Club Girls and countless others. All of her friends knew that, on visiting Janice, they should be ready for her to don her red glasses and dive into the latest goings-on in their lives. The reward for them was the wisdom and love she would impart.
An uncommonly lucky card player, Janice was both loved and feared at the card table, and was the winner of many family card tournaments. She was also an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, supporting them during their good times and bad.
Janice spent the winter months enjoying the sun, family and friends at her Cape Coral, Fla., home. In the summer, she held court poolside at her home in Clarks Summit, and at the family’s Pine Creek cottage, the Lucky Duck. Janice enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, walking her dog and reading.
Surviving are her husband, Steve, Clarks Summit; children, Adrienne, Connor and wife, Caroline, Philadelphia; and Spencer and girlfriend, Ashley Abda, New York, N.Y.; also, mother, Louise Horger Hawk; siblings, David Hawk and wife, Anne, Dunmore; Nancy Hawk; and Robert Hawk, Elmhurst; brother-in-law, David Liddic and wife, Kathy, Williamsport; sister-in-law, Kathy McKibben and husband, Craig; and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her faithful canine companion, Parker; and cats, Tucker, Truman, Tibbs and Quinn.
A celebration of life service will be held on:

Barbara “Bunny” Ahrens

Barbara “Bunny” Ahrens, age 80, of Honesdale, formerly of Westbury, NY, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family on July 24, 2016 following a life of benevolence and kindness.
Born in Bronx, NY to the late John and Mae Murphy. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert, brother Donald and grandson Matthew.
Cherished mom of Jeanne Calabrese(Ed) Milford, PA; Bob Ahrens(Jessica)Norwich, CT; Bill Ahrens Centereach, NY; Kathy Conigliaro(Mike) Levittown, NY; and her devoted dog, Molly.
Beloved Mom-Mom/Grandma Bunny to fourteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many grand-pets.
She was a secretary for Aetna Life & Casualty for many years. Her love of volunteering included The Columbiettes Holy Innocents Council, Levittown, NY and working as a respite provider for Wayne Memorial Hospice. She loved to travel and decorate her home for the Holidays. Friends from The Betty Boop Red Hats of Hawley, Grace Episcopal Church and Trackside Grill held a special place in her heart.
A special thank you to the Wayne Memorial Hospice team for the unforgettable love and care given to Barbara during the past year.
Visitation will be held:
Noon on Saturday July 30th at Grace Episcopal Church, Honesdale.
Mass will be conducted:
1:00 pm on Saturday July 30th at Grace Episcopal Church, Honesdale.
Interment will be private.

Sandra K. Howe
July 23, 2016
Sandra K. Howe, 69, a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away Saturday after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, William Howe.
Born Dec. 24, 1946 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Maryann (Parry) Comstock.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her six children, Robert Harvey of Scranton; Barbara DiMauro and husband, John of Scranton; Maryann Harvey of Scranton; Brandy Tanana and husband, Tim of Throop; Stacy Howe of McBee, S.C.; and Mindy Connor and husband, Philip of Eagleville, Pa.; her sister-in-law, Diana Comstock of Scranton; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and aunts. She is also survived by her very spoiled dog, Harley.
Sandra was preceded in death by her sister, Mary “Cookie” Comstock; and her brother, Robert Comstock, on May 31, 2016.
Friends will be received on:
Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Ave., Scranton.
Interment will be conducted privately at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp.
Thomas E. Bojnoski

Thomas E. Bojnoski, 68, of Gouldsboro, passed away Saturday at Allied Skilled Care following a lengthy illness. His wife of 42 years is the former Judith A. Freach.
Born March 6, 1948 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Stanley T. and Mary H. (Patchcoski) Bojnoski. Thomas graduated from North Pocono High School, and served in the Army Reserves. Before his retirement, he was employed at the Tobyhanna Army Depot for 38 years. He was a member of St. Rita’s Church in Gouldsboro.
Thomas was a loving husband, father and grandfather, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife are his sons, Jonathan Paul Bojnoski and fiancée, Brittany Edwards; and Jeffrey Thomas Bojnoski; his brother, Edward Bauer and wife, Brenda; and sister, Susan Knorr and husband, Terry; and his granddaughter, Aubrey Marie Bojnoski, who he cherished. He is also survived by additional grandchildren, aunts, uncles; nephews and cousins.
A blessing service will be conducted:
Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Duffy & Snowdon Funeral Home, 401 Church St., Moscow, Pa.

Frank Kamarauskas Sr.

Frank Kamarauskas Sr., 75, of Scranton, died Friday evening at Allied Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton, following an illness. His wife of 53 years is the former Sandra Johnson.
Born Nov. 1, 1940 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Elizabeth Ann (Vilikas) Kamarauskas. He was educated in the Scranton schools, and before his retirement, he was employed as a machine operator with Chesapeake Corporation of Scranton. Frank was a member of St. Paul’s Parish in Scranton, and the Tauras Club.
He enjoyed bowling, belonging to many bowling leagues throughout the years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who especially enjoyed time with his family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved gardening. He was known to compete with his neighbors for growing the largest and best vegetables.
Frank’s family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Paul Remick, Allied Skilled Care and Ascera Care Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his sons, Frank Kamarauskas Jr. of Scranton, and companion, Robin Perkoski; and grandson, Dustin of Jefferson Twp.; Jeffrey Kamarauskas and wife, Debbie of Scranton; and Daniel Kamarauskas and fiancée, Amanda Toye; and granddaughter, Reagan Kamarauskas of Jefferson Twp.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Nancy Ragalla and Carole Lipchus.
A Mass will be celebrated:
Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton.
Visitation will be conducted privately by the family.
